About Jered

Born and raised in Connecticut, I live with my beautiful fiancé Regina and our pug, Potato (pronounced pah-tah-toe).

My love for food started many years ago while traveling the world. I developed a passion for cooking deep in the heart of Texas… San Antonio!

After graduating from Johnson & Wales University with a bachelor’s degree in culinary arts and food service management, I worked for years in kitchens of small cafes to nationally ranked steakhouses, I then decided to take my love for food online and highlight the real kitchen heroes… the home cooks!

Ratios are rules commonly used in math, science, and even baking. Because cooking is an art and not a science, when cooking, ratios have no place in the kitchen! Recipes should be used as a guide but some of the best dishes are made by being creative (wingin it).

Some of the most delicious food I have ever tried was not prepared in a fancy five-star restaurant by a classically trained chef. Rather, it was made in the small kitchen of a relative, friend, or neighbor. Every day, delicious meals are prepared in small kitchens worldwide, by individuals who have no culinary training!


What you’ll find on this site

Tested recipes. I guarantee that I have personally tested every single recipe that appears on this site. Recipes that I create and recipes that are submitted by someone in the Home Cooks community all go through a rigorous editing process. During this process, I make sure that all directions are accurate and easy to read.

Easy recipes that are delicious and fun to make! I’m a huge foodie, and I like almost everything I try. Sometimes all it takes is a pinch more of salt or one extra ingredient added to the recipe. If it’s not delicious, it does not get published!

An amazing community of Home Cooks! Many of our home cooks are more than willing to share their knowledge and help out fellow home cooks when needed.

Amazing recommendations! When recipes require the use of special equipment, I will provide you with my recommendation of which brand/model I like. Rest assured, all of my recommendations are based on first-hand knowledge and I will never recommend anything I haven’t used myself.

Dairy-free, gluten-free, dairy and gluten-free options. Let’s be real! Oftentimes gluten and dairy-free options lack taste, especially in comparison to their dairy and gluten-packed counterparts. Sometimes, this can be an issue because I do the majority of the cooking, and my lovely fiancé, Regina, has a sensitive stomach. Being the loving fiancé that I am, I often seek out dairy and gluten-free options, and I must say… I have come across some delicious meals!


What you won’t find on this site

Stock images. I have personally tested and photographed every single recipe on this site. You can rest assured that all images are original, whether they are from a recipe I have developed or they are from a recipe submitted through our Home Cook community. I will never use stock images!

I will never sacrifice taste. I only post the most flavorful recipes! Both health and happiness are important but I will never sacrifice one for the other.

Recommendations based on others’ opinions. You will notice that in some posts, I will make recommendations on certain products that will make it easier to prepare the recipe or products that will make the recipe more delicious! All recommendations will be based on my own opinion and first-hand knowledge. They will never ever be made up or based on second-hand knowledge.
